If you’re like me, there are times when you’d rather listen to YouTube videos than watch them. The good news is that I’ve found a trick to listen to YouTube audio even when your phone is locked. This can be really handy when you want to keep your phone in your pocket while doing other things, like mowing the yard. Here’s how you can do it.
Open YouTube in a Web Browser
On your phone, instead of using the YouTube app, open YouTube in a web browser:
- Launch Safari, Google Chrome or Firefox on your phone.
- Navigate to www.youtube.com.
Search for and Play Your Desired Video
Once you’re on YouTube’s website:
- Use the search bar to find the video you want to listen to and open it.
- Tap to play the video. The video player will start to play within the browser.
Lock Your Phone
- After the video begins playing, lock your phone by pressing the power button.
- You’ll notice the video pauses automatically, but don’t worry — this is part of the process.
Unlock Your Phone
- Unlock your phone by tapping the screen or pressing the power button.
- The video will appear paused, but don’t close the browser yet.
Play the Video Again
- Press the play button to resume the video playback.
Lock Your Phone Again
- After the video starts playing again, lock your phone.
- The video will stop playing once again.
Play Video From the Lock Screen
- On your lock screen, locate the play button in the media controls and tap it.
- The audio will start playing again, even while the screen remains locked, allowing you to listen to the video with your phone in your pocket.
Bonus
- If an ad starts playing, simply click the refresh button in your browser to skip it.
